Relief Features of the Ocean
Ocean bottoms are not plain as believed earlier; they reveal many complex and varied features which rival the relief features on land. The great variety of relief is largely due to interaction of tectonic, volcanic, erosional and depositional processes. At the greater depths, the tectonic and volcanic phenomena are more significant processes.
Ocean relief features are divided into major and minor relief features.
Major Ocean Relief Features:
These are steep valleys, forming deep gorges on the ocean floor. They are mainly restricted to the continental shelf , slope and rise.
